Craft fairs are a fantastic way to promote your handmade business, connect with local customers, and increase your sales. At my first craft fair, I made over $600, and it was a huge stepping stone for my small business. People love supporting local artisans, so making the most of your craft fair experience is crucial! They work best alongside the other channels in where to find customers for your handmade business.
Here are some top craft fair tips to help you stand out and boost your sales:
1. Accepting Payments Easily
Use a Square Reader for Credit Cards
One of the best things I did at my first craft fair was accept credit cards. I use a Square reader, which plugs right into your phone or tablet. This makes it easy for customers to pay with a credit card or debit card. Most people don’t carry cash these days, and you don’t want to lose a sale just because you can’t take their card. Plus, Square sends an email receipt to your customer, so you don’t have to write anything out!
Cash Payments
While most people use cards, you’ll still need to accept cash. Bring a cash box with plenty of small bills for change. You’ll also want to keep your cash safe by storing it securely under your table.
Even though most people use cards, you should still be ready to accept cash. Bring a cash box and make sure you have enough small bills to give change if needed. I go through the card readers and fees in accepting payments.
2. Setting Up Your Table For Success
Choose the Right Table Setup
For your craft fair, you’ll need a 6-foot folding table.

Don't forget to bring a tablecloth that's long enough to cover the floor. This will help hide boxes or extra supplies under your table. Stocking up cheaply? These Dollar Tree blanks are among my best sellers at fairs.

Add Height to Your Display

Use crates, shelves, or stands to make your table look taller and more interesting. If you sell shirts, wear your favorite design so people can see it in action. The more fun and creative your display is, the more people will want to stop by! If you are just getting going, starting a Cricut business covers the basics. Before you stock that table, test one piece from every batch of blanks – cheap ones are inconsistent.

Create a Photo Book
If you have too many products to display on the table, consider making a photo book of your items. You can include high-quality pictures of your products, their prices, and order forms to give to customers.
Bring Your Heat Press or Iron
Ask the event organizers if there’s electricity available. If they say yes, you can bring your heat press, Cricut EasyPress 3, or iron to personalize products right at the event. This can help you stand out and make your booth extra special!
Use a Pop-Up Canopy
Make sure to bring a pop-up canopy to protect yourself and your products from sun and rain. Craft fairs are often held outdoors, and a canopy can help keep you comfortable while ensuring your products stay safe and dry.
Use a Folding Wagon for Transport
Carrying all your supplies from your car to your booth can be a hassle, especially if you have a lot to bring. A folding wagon can be a lifesaver! It's a convenient way to easily transport your items, and it folds up neatly for storage when you're not using it.
3. Helpful Tips for a Successful Day

Bring a Friend to Help
Having a friend or family member with you can make the day easier and more fun. They can help you talk to customers and handle payments while you focus on making items or personalizing them.
Do Some Research Before the Event
It’s always a good idea to look into the craft fair before you sign up. Check how long the event has been going on, what the table fee is, and how many people will be there. This way, you can decide if the event is worth your time.
Advertise Your Business
Use your time at the craft fair to let people know about your business! Bring business cards with your contact info and a banner with your business name. You could even use your business cards as price tags on your products!

Vistaprint is one of the most popular choices for business cards. They offer a wide variety of templates and customization options. You can choose different finishes (e.g., matte, glossy, raised) and card stock options.
Have a Variety of Prices
Offer a mix of products at different price points. This will make it easier for people with all budgets to find something they want to buy.
4. Most Importantly—Have Fun!
Craft fairs are a great chance to meet new people, showcase your work, and have fun. Don’t forget to enjoy the experience! Get to know other crafters, chat with your customers, and let your products shine. This is your opportunity to make new connections and grow your business.
