When I first started, I heard a lot of people recommend dafont.com as a place to download free fonts. It’s important to know that the free fonts on this website are usually only for personal use, unless it states that you can use it for commercial use. You usually have to pay for fonts to gain commercial access. Violating someone's copyright is not only unethical, it is illegal. It’s important to research copyright and trademark laws to ensure you are running a legal business. You don’t want to produce a product that could end up getting you sued.
I would find myself falling in love with a “free” font, using it in a project, and then discovering the commercial license is crazy expensive. Magnolia Sky, for example, is one of the most popular downloaded fonts on dafont.com. The free download is only for personal use and to buy the font with commercial license costs $39 desktop or $390 app. It can be discouraging to find out commercial font licenses can be so costly.
